TheRank.net Playoff Scenario
Updated 12/2/2007 by Christopher C. Kelly
Every year at this time TheRank.net releases TheRank.net Playoff Scenario to the public through TheRank.net Human Element page. This playoff system is fair and leaves no FBS champion on the sidelines. TheRank.net Playoff Scenario gives each conference a shot at playing for a later bowl in a conference-represented contest while deciding a national championship game at the end of the season.
The scenario is simple enough so that any fan can calculate it once all regular season and conference championship games are completed. The top 4 programs will have a one-week idle period.
The at-large program will be positioned based on win percentage alongside the remaining conference champions win percentage. The at-large position can place a team anywhere from 5th to 12th position.
Home programs have options on whether to move the contest up one day to a Thursday if on a Friday or to a Friday if on a Saturday. No more than two games will be played on each day. Home programs also have the option to change venue, based on marketing requirements. Dec. 6-8, 2007 – First Round:
Programs that lose in the first round are invited to their respective conference championship bowl game. This bowl is scheduled no earlier than 14 days from the first round contest. Dec. 13-15, 2007 - Second Round (Quarter-finals): The winning teams will be reseeded based on original position.
Programs that lose in the second round are invited to their respective conference championship bowl game. This bowl is scheduled no earlier than 14 days from the second round contest. Dec. 20-22, 2007 – Third Round (Semi-finals): The winning teams will NOT be reseeded based on original position.
Programs that lose in the third round are invited to their respective conference championship bowl game. This bowl is scheduled no earlier than 10 days from the third round contest (Dec 30, 2007 - Jan 4, 2008).
The two programs that advance to a national championship game will play on January 7, 2008 and as a result of advancing, these programs will give away their conference representation in a bowl game to their conference runner-up (alternate). Dec. 23, 2007 – TheRank.net New Years Bowl Selection Show
